To all of you on the blog, living in South Africa, I have only one piece of advice…..
Use your vote very, very carefully at the next election, otherwise you are going to get more of the same.
It is pathetic to observe our Government’s reaction to the so-called xenophobia which is now rife in our country.
Our security forces are obviously so incompetent as the result of taking “MK Freedom Fighters” off the streets and making them commissioned officers in the Defence and Police Forces, with little or no training, that they just do not know how to handle really threatening situations.
They bring in characters such as the suspended Metro Police “Chief” Robert Mc Bride (whose expertise is confined to the bombing of defenceless women and children) to try and defuse the volatility.
They are still humming-and hahing as to whether the “Defence Force” should be deployed.
In the “Old Dispensation” this problem would have been resolved, firstly by proper influx control and secondly by the harsh and immediate reaction to the threat of rendering the country ungovernable.
Anathi your statement is bald and lack substance, do you have evidence to support yourself, surely not. Please wake-up- your future is very very important. You are saying they increase the crime rate so (assuming that is the fact)Is that a license for you to kill a human being.I don`t want to hear any these justifications.”they are taking our wives and taking our jobs” , RUBBISH!!
BLACK SOUTH AFRICAN -EAST LONDON.
people let us look this thing in other way round this people are the one that are causing rate of crime to be high in south africa
First it was the blacks that went beserk because of the appartheid era, then those same blacks created another apartheid era themselves by creating affirmitive action. Now, suprise, suprise, those blacks have done it again by discriminationg against “foreigners”. When are you going to wake up and realise that you, the black people of South Africa are your own worst enemy.
Guys all of you who commented on the issue Im sure you are missing the point here. The point here is xenophibia not your personnal interest If we can talk about the discrimination what is that?We people of South African we discriminate ourselves saying Im white/black or whatever instant of working together to build our country, looking for blame instant of solution in this country.I wish guys you can come to Jozi and see what is happenning here the Humanity in those who killed people is the name which is not in their dictionary. They are just criminals who are used to kill people if you can ask why they are not in work you will be suprise’Looking at them ngamakhwenkwe angazange ayalwe, because I dont think kukhona amadoda ayaliweyo angenza lento to burn people.
Coming to the point of that the foreigners are taking our jobs did we ever ask ourselves why?
Let me tell you South Africans are used to be depended not independed, are lazy yes its the truth for example government took intiative of giving back the land to the people who make the land claim, what is happening to those land nothing. They are blaming the government and complaining that the government is not giving them the equipment to use the land thats rubbish and lazyness
If a South African has a R100 in the pocket is thinking of buying a beer or enjoy him/herself with the money instant of think wisely, but if you give a foreigner R100 he/she will think of increasing theR100 by taking a risk to increase the money.
It is the time for South Africans to WAKE UP and support each other on the businesses and stop the accusations and blaming the foreiners WAKE UP and learn the skills from these people. If they are taking your job ask yourself what did I do wrong and go back and strategise, worse of saying taking our girlfriend and wives men change your attitude towards women its not too late to learn.Leave our brothers and sister alone and enjoy the democracy of SA.We need peace in this country not conflict
Ths is going to show a bad image of S.A in treating the foreign people and the rate/number of the people attending the world cup will dencrease becouse people will be coming from other cuontries will have a fere of being betean. This will bring more poverty to the poor.
The goverment is to shoulder the blame this time. Why do we have policies, Why Laws, Why Regulations if we are not going to uphold.
This issue of illegal immigrants is a world wide problem, even big countries like America, France etc are all experiencing it and there are laws and regulations governing it. The way in which these goverments adress it differs, because each and very goverment has diffrent challenges in terms of adressing the needs of its citezens.
We are third world country with limited resouces, we are trying to rebuild our country from the imbalances of the past and we are faced with huge backlogs, service delivery, poverty, unemployment and the scurge of HIV and Aids. The above list of issues needs to be funded by the tax paying citezens.
The manner in which the so called refugees enter the country needs to be controlled. We have seen TV programmes showing how illegal immigrants enter the country but what is the goverment doing? Do we have refugee camps to accomodate these masses of people or do we just let them infiltrate into our communities, control! control! control!. When you are running a sytem you need to follow certain protocols.
I’m not supprised at what is happening it was always bruing. There are foreigners that contribute towards the growth of this country and there are foreigners that are a liability to the country. Its up to the goverment to strike a balance.
I’m telling you now this not the end of it.
We ackhowledge what African/European countries did for our leaders during apartheid times. But credit must go to the masses that stayed in SA during those times. The masses are the ones that bore the direct blant of the apartheid system. So naturaly the masses are the ones that are going to reacting to the influx of foreigners in the country.
The last time people were necklaced was during the apartheid times, note the people that were necklaced were fellow black South Africans called IMPIMPI, that act of burning people alive was not symbolic of barbarism but of the deep anger that people felt about the system.
People are angry!!!!!!!!!!
The masses are angry!!!!!!
I live in Gauteng and we are soon to relocate to East London – our home town – Thank God. The thought that such violence is happening not far away from us is frightening. I, too, cant get the picture of the burning man out of my mind. I am white and believe that we are all first human. No matter race or your station in life. I look at the man burning and think that he is someone’s son, brother, father, husband. My own husband grew up in Zimbabwe and he is constantly telling me that South Africa is going the same way. Pressurising me to immigrate to the UK and I keep sidestepping the issue hoping and praying that the country of my birth will mend. Because at the end of the day I am as much a South African and even an African than anyone else even though I have the wrong skin colour. I would like to believe that we are building a great nation for our children to grow up in – what are all these terrible acts about? How is it justified? How can a group of people stand together and do this to another human being? It goes beyond comprehension and it makes me scared.Very scared.
The only beneficiary in what is happening in Gauteng is Devil. After all he is the Commander in Chief of all evil deeds. Let humanity rise above such deeds
No matter what one’s misfortunes are, the answer to them could never be found under the blood stained corpses of our African brothers and sisters instead if this continues, a curse shall befall on our land. God save us!!
What is going on South Africa,
we talk about transformation but we allow this abomination to carry on .There is a book that says that we should help and look after foreigners when they are in our country -you never know when you may end up in theirs .Things are hard in Zimbabwe made this way by one man and his renegade crew of low life politicians however way he has got this right it stinks of the same regime we had .
When will we pick people into power that have only the country at heart and not how my buddys and family members can get ahead ,we need the right people to do the right job irrespective if he has a degree or not-hey i can pick up a fake degree in Koi San road,Bangkok for less than R200,does that give me the right to be a teacher or doctor ,some of the truelly educated brainy kids who are clever go into the job world not even enjoying what they studied for so does that make him the right man for the right job-what a load of ###t-some only go for these jobs because the pay is great-money makes the world go round what horse***t.
Get in the people who want to be teachers the people who want to save lives because thats what they love to do.Lets change our outlook in this regard -i know of many people sitting in a place called Molteno 2000 whites and 10000 blacks who get on as good as they can -helping each other understand what needs to be done -forget the color issue and make this country a better place for all-wake up my brothers and sisters and see the light ,look after your young and old lets make it a better Africa and let me tell this if we dont do it nobody is going to do it for us -where ever you come from it shouldnt matter -its what you do at where you are that matters -those who sit on a couch and watch the circus are as bad as the circus itself .Come People look at the situation and make a difference the time for action is now.
Lets not give up but show the world of what we are about -viva mandela viva steve bikho amandla iafrica.
How on earth can any country that purports to call itself “civilised” allow the events we see broadcast world-wide on the television and Internet?
What are our leaders, formal and informal, doing to stop this madness – other than making pious sound-bites, that is? Why are they not standing between the fighting groups crying “Stop!” Or would that be too difficult?
Why, given the multiplicity of religious groupings we have in South Africa, is only one retired old man telling his former-congregants that what we are doing is wrong? Where are the rest of the spiritual leaders? Why are they not crying out with one voice saying that the madness must stop?
Why is our under-employed army not being used to keep the fighters apart? That’s what armies do, isn’t it? Fight, I mean. Oh I forgot, you need a war to use an army, don’t you?
Does any rational, thinking, person doubt that what we have going on right now is not a case where the army could be sensibly used to help a civilian police force that is undermanned, over-extended and ill-equipped?
Why do I have the cynical thought at the back of my mind that no-one in authority really gives a damn what happens because it’s the voters, their “constituency”, who seem to be attacking persons without a vote?
Please, someone tell me I’m wrong!
Why is race such a huge issue in everything nawadays? Why are we fifghting againts each other!!! what is this world coming to? It is really appauling for me to hear these hideous stories. We are supposed to be unified, black or while, South african or not! There is a say that says “treat others the same way that you would want to be treated”. In that respect I beg my fellow South africans to treat all foreigners the same way that they would want to be treated if they were in another country. We are all seeking success or a better life. If a better life for Zimbabwens means coming to SA, then so be it. We all dont know what the future holds, therefore we should be considerate of how we treat others around us. I’m studying out of country and i personally never want to be illtreated just because i’m from another country.
In 1988 i finished my schooling at Selborne College,
was drafted into the South African Intelligence School Potchestroom where i learnt about my Afrikaaner brother and my Black brother .Firstly there was no intelligence in SAINTS-hating people because of colour blew me away -setting up fights between different black groups so they could kill each other off just did not seem right -i realise i was not the only one thinking this ,i found many of my friends family no names mentioned being sought after for believing in a democratic country(letter bombs)-i grew up on a farm just outside East London my best friends name was Zaki and when i was 6 years old and went to school i could not understand why Zaki wasnt allowed to come with me things like this left marks deep into my heart -i understand from all of what i have seen and heard there are people in power that hate or have been horribly abused some where along there path and do not worry about the little people who are me and you -they will destroy anything that gets in their path even their own family -when i was in the army all i realised was that communism was wrong and our poor black people were backed by them now that war is over comunism wants it share and the poor blacks(majority) dont realise the impications of this.
Zulus and Xhosa have fought many wars in history, many other black tribes have fought same battles around Africa -White man has done very much the same so i dont see any difference if you take colour away we all have the same blood-RED.
However its the ones we put in power or behind the power that determine the next course of action in where we go and how we look going there. My fiends what we need is to educate our people in peace ,love ,self control ,righteousness, honour ,integrity fruits of the great power that is with us -I am not talking about ordered religion because anything with order in it takes away the freedom of expression and the will to be you -how we were meant to be is not this way inclined and yes i do believe the devil can change given the right understanding .
Its time to stop the fighting and stand up in the strength of love and be counted for your gift of been given a chance to just breath that in itself should be precious enough and when forces come against you and make you hate inside -just know the difference between love and hate .
All i can really say is we have overstepped the boundaries of humanity so many times in history -we have killed in the name of God (how sad) and one of the first commandments of our Lord is…….THOU SHALL NOT KILL!
if we do not learn from our past -the future will be the same ,to understand where we have gone wrong and to fix this then the future will be bright .Its up to the little people to come together in love -build ourselves up because God is the God of Love and who can be against us if God is with us -Go well South Africa .
I have always hated the idea of going onto blog sites, but after the trauma I experienced seeing the pictures of the burning man on the net, I had to have a say.
Politics, socio-economic and race issues aside, when I read about people laughing and joking while watching a human being dying in such a horrible fashion, I felt both revulsion and despair.
Revulsion for the ‘things’ that committed this barbarity, and those ‘things’ that stood by and laughed while it happened. I also felt great despair for Africa and humanity in general.
If the people of South Africa are going to expect to stand up and be counted in History as a sane voice in the madness that often prevails in Africa, they are sorely mistaken.
If you add our Apartheid past to this image as a representation of the ‘moral fibre’ that South Africa is made up of, we are more likely to go down in history as a pariah!
Throughout history, black ethnic groups have been disagreeing and fighting each other in Africa. It is the way of the African people. To think that this deep-seated, ritualistic and superstitiously fueled way of life will change is just as futile as believing in the Tokkeloshi.
Part of this problem is the inability of government and African people to holistically approach any issue. They manage with knee-jerk reactions and on the one hand assist Chinese weapons to reach Zimbabwe (obvious implications to all but Mufumade) and then express outrage and disbelief at what is happening now.
Eish, Nkosi sikele Iafrika, because they sure as hell are not going to do it for themselves!
To quote another (black) blogger from the sports blog: ‘these are sick deprived individuals committing these crimes and race has nothing to do with it’
Yeah right, only when it suits you hypocrites!
It was with such a sad heart that I read the Dallas morning news this morning about the madness taking place in my old country. When will
the black South African realize what the rest of the world thinks and sees. Tourism will be wiped out, who is going to visit a country with this violence taking place? As for the rest of the white South Africans, my heart aches for you. I am sure most of you would get the heck out if you could……those of you that can’t……..please fight to keep this beautiful country a safe place for you and your families!!
I have just looked at the photograph of the man being burned alive. There are no words to describe the barbarity of this act.
During the apartheid years the ANC set out to make South Africa ungovernable.
One of the ways that they did this was by using their supporters to terrorise those who did not particularly want to get involved, to be very involved.
Who can forget Winnie Mandela and her rhetoric ‘with our boxes of matches and our necklaces’. Who were those boxes of matches and necklaces used on. Black people.
Came the new dispensation and nobody in Government has done anything to deprogramme that attitiude out of the general population. They teach kids in schools all sorts of things but they don’t teach them that burning other people is wrong because the subject convenietly never turns up.
The ungovernablity remains with us daily as criminal elements do as they please.
Our President speaks so eleguently of an African Renaissance and pays lip service to the poverty experienced in this country and the terror that criminals exercise over the poor.
Our Government has meetings to discuss their next meeting and pay no attention to the poor.
The poor get poorer, not because the rich are getting richer but because municipalities and government now are jammed to beyond capacity with freeloaders who don’t do their jobs and so houses which municipalities and local governments should build to take people out of slums, don’t get built.
People who desperately wonder where their next meal is going to come from don’t give a **** about an African Renaissance or that policticians have to attend meetings or that the black middle class are more interested in their car allowances than they are about the poor.
What we are seeing here is no sudden outburst of xenophobia.
What we are seeing here is the poor doing something to get the governments attention. That it is foreigners who are being used as the whipping boy, despite its despicability, was probably predictable as who else is there for them to vent their frustration on?
Rainbow nation? The poor see no Rainbow nation. If anything they see their future painted in multishades of k@k!
The government is now caught between a rock and a hard place. They don’t like what is going on but those lawless barbarians burning, murdering and looting are voters. They are grass root voters and next year is election year.
So as per usual we have have no crisis because we can not afford to react as if we are in crisis. The army can not be brought in because we have no crisis yet. The real truth is that the army can not be brought in because the army does not pander to the fine intricacies of negotiating with people. The army understands drawing a line in the tarmac and defending that line. If voters try to cross that line they die. End of story and surprisingly if done with sufficient resolve and numbers also end of riots.
This government must act with resolve. If they do not, they might win the election but lose the country
These riots and violence are a terrible reminder that South Africa is not a ‘Rainbow Nation’. We’re not ‘multi-cultural’, ‘understanding’ or a ‘new, united nation’.
In my opinion, the only reason that these riots are being called Xenophobic is because it is black people that are perpetrating the riots. If it had been white people behind this, it would be called Racist.
Whatever you want to call it, it is pathetic behaviour. More than that, it is seriously damaging the future of the country. Tourism is fading, the exchange rate is crippled….
What bothers me most about this bull is that the victims were robbed of their things. It is astounding that in the midst of “Xenophobic outrage”, there are still those who would use the time to rob, steal, rape… all the usual SA crime statistic stuff.
We all stood around patting ourselves on the back after the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The truth of the matter? There is no reconciliation of violent, stupid people who seek nothing more than an opportunity and a pretext to kill and rob.
This is what black South Africans are doing to their comrades who helped them fight Apartheid. Imagine what they will do to white South Africans! Isn’t it strange how black South Africans think that they can never be racist, which is exactly what this is. Nkosi sikele Iafrika is right for us…..because we are doomed.
Such comments are scaring me as a black South African, to be pointing fingers to blacks in general. Why should I be suprised anyway that a white person atleast this time comes out and say I hate black people. Why are we reversing instead of moving forward becouse such comments show that there is still racism in this country.
I am not trying to say I condone xenophonia but why break down the nasty and inhumane actions that are already known?. That is if we are blaming people for being lazy then blame them instead of pointing at the race. Lets shout the words of positivism instead of making comments that will cause the eruption of more problems. Becouse as far as I know such comments will lead to white fighting against black so please stop calling Black people scums and morons!!!, becouse that talk is of a moron.
What these certain individuals are doing is wrong and lets find ways of dilling with the problem as South Africans both Black and white.
This is very wrong. These people left their countries to look for greener pastures. Some fled due to political and economic reasons. I bet very soon South Africa will be another Zim. All I can say is Black South Africans we have shown the world that we are wrong upstairs. Black man killing another black brother. That is so wrong. I condemn any killing. After all these foreigners are not here to take your jobs. Most of them do hand-work that most South African Citizens are not capable of doing. If they make money of their projects we become very jelous and yet we dont do anything. All we do is seat on our laps and expect the govt to do something for us. It doesnt work that way. Seating on bridges smoking Dagga then you call yourself a hero. Wake up South Africans go to school like these foreigners especially Zimbos. I personally went to Univer of Zim. their education is excellent.
Most of these foreigners being attacked are cross border traders. They come to SA to sell their products for them to be able to support their families back in their countries (Zim Moz, Malawi, Zambia etc). The shops are empty in Zim. People quee the whole day just for a loaf of bread without guarantee of even geting it. They come to SA only to be treated like this. ONLY GOD KNOWS.
I wonder why uncle Bob is quiet. Why cant he send buses to transport his people before they all die in SA.
Why so silent about the issue of Xenophobia?
All of a sudden the cat has everyone’s tongue?
I’m just waiting for someone (black) to turn around and blame this on white people or apartheid.
This proves my point that the black nation (no matter what tribe they’ve from) are hypocritical.
When it suits them, they blame the white people for what’s happening, and now, when it is clearly their own fault that has landed them and the rest of South Africa in this mess, they are silent.
No one out there have the balls to stand up and chastise those who are perpetrating those crimes?
Clearly not.
It’s sad that South Africa will once again lose out of billions of Rands of tourism and investment.
But then again, it doesn’t seem like this ANC government and the people it governs have the brains or commonsense to realize that.
Viva ANC! Viva!
Instead of TourismSA having the slogan: “South Africa, Alive with Possibility”, they should just have “Zimbabwe II” … because that’s exactly where South Africa is heading.
I’m so pissed off at the black nation for stuffing up South Africa.
Get a life, the whole lot of you, forget about race and get up off your backsides and find some work to do, instead of leaching off of us hard-working taxpayers.
Time to get tough with our own!!!!!
