Give us a hippo caption!
On Thursday, the Dispatch carried the interesting story of a “surfing” hippo on the loose on a KwaZulu-Natal beach. We want you to tell us what “Mr Hippo” is thinking… (click to enlarge image)
This is what the story said:
“Wildlife authorities on Wednesday issued a stern warning to the public to stay away from a hippo spotted cavorting along Ballito’s shorebreak.
KwaZulu-Natal Ezemvelo spokesman Jeff Gaisford said: “A bite from a hippo is usually fatal to a human being”.
The animal had been spotted in Richards Bay and other areas over the past two weeks.
Gaisford said the animal had been spotted at Ballito on Tuesday but by Wednesday morning had left the area and was believed to be headed north.
“We have been tracking it and we just hope it goes back to where it came from,” he said.
He warned bathers and beach goers to stay far away from the hippo.
“If you leave it alone, it will leave you alone because if it oesn’t like you, it will attack,” he said.”

talk about undpredictable weather….summer over here was only for week. it stopped before we could have any braais. you guys are lucky. imagine having to wear a coat and boots for 11 months or more. wish I was there.
