Elections 2009: 40 young EL voices (interactive map)

Filed Under (Dispatch, multimedia) by Jan Hennop on 22-04-2009 and tagged , , , ,

How do we present Election Day 2009 in a special way as part of our online package?Well, for the last few weeks the DispatchOnline team has been conducting a range of video interviews with matric pupils at various schools around the city. Today, we bring you 40 young voices – each asked one simple question: Why is it important to vote? The way we did it was to take the video interviews, and embed them in a Google interactive map. This is how it works…

Use your mouse “hand” and left click to grab the map. Pull it to the centre of your screen so that you can see the icons of the buses and “pins”. Each pins represents the view of a pupil. Use the “plus” sign to zoom into the map. Click on the pin you want to see and wait for YouTube to download the video. Click on play and watch the pupil’s opinion. (Apologies, interactive map will only work if you can access YouTube).

Thanks Siphiwo – I hope my instructions on how to look at the map is OK…
Geez, we battled last night to get it posted on the blog. But anyway, here it is. If anybody has problems checking it out, please let us know on this blog. – Online News Ed.

your instructions are definitely working…or maybe it’s because i’ve worked with it (that kind of interactive google map).
but one of the pupils’ video clip, mihi, is somewhat delaying.
;)

no worries. i’ve noticed that some pins are pointing at the rugby field. were those pupils playing?

good work again, i can see that this election has brought tiger in you, or should i say lacoste? your creative nerves and veins are up & in action.

:)
