Keith Floyd, the original TV chef, dies,

Filed Under (Lifestyle, human interest, obituary) by Jan Hennop on 15-09-2009 and tagged , , , , ,

keithKeith Floyd, the chef widely credited for popularising cooking on television, has died at age 65, his website announced on Tuesday after apparently suffering a short battle with bowel cancer.

Remembered for his extravangant style and swagger (usually with a wineglass in hand), Floyd has made several trips to South Africa, where he taught a wide range of cooking styles, including classic French and Mediterranean.

On one memorable occasion, Online News Editor Jan Hennop witnessed a cooking programme in which Floyd (with glas in hand), showed viewers how to prepare freshly caught calamari, and in the process almost sets the fishermen’s boat on fire!

More gentle than modern-day celebrity chefs like Gordon Ramsey and Marco Pierre White, Floyd’s cooking books can be found in thousands of households around the English-speaking world.

So, farewell Keith, we enjoyed your often haphazard but completely entertaining cooking programmes.

Great Chef – Actually met him in 1995. An amazing personality ! I have all of his books of which Floyd on Oz was probably one of the best.
