Joost: “I could still lose my family”

Filed Under (Lifestyle, people) by Jan Hennop on 03-11-2009 and tagged , , , , ,

joostSo, we stayed away from the Joost story a bit, but here’s the latest on the saga: Disgraced former Springbok star Joost van der Westhuizen says he could still lose his wife Amor and his family in the wake  of the infamous sex tape scandal.

Van der Westhuizen admits in his book Joost: The Man in the  Mirror that he had taken drugs and had “sexual relations” with  a woman who was not his wife.

Earlier this year, he vehemently denied that it was him in a  29-minute sex-and-drugs video tape released by a celebrity  magazine in February.

“My wife is taking it very tough. I could still lose her. I could  still lose my family,” said Joost this morning during an  interview on Talk Radio 702.

“I’m going to fight for it (my family),” said Joost, quoted by The Times.

He said that he had “no excuses” for his behaviour but also  took a swipe at those who had tried to blackmail him and “some  media” that had “paid these people” for the story.

The former Springbok scrumhalf also told John Robbie of  Talk Radio 702 that he had never had a drug problem and that  he never took drugs when he was still playing rugby.

So what do you think? Should Amor stand by her man or leave him? You tell us.

I think if he had just ‘fessed up this could have avoided lots. Of course nothing like some free publicity along with the release of a book.

Joost “too late for mamma”.(Amor)Have to agree Joost was our hero, he enjoyed all the fame and fortune. He was well liked by all South african, unfortunately the wheel has turned for him. He disappointed the nation with his racist acts and now he has also disappointed his wife and family. Nothing will ever erase the damage he has caused. He is nothing more than an ordinary citizen that failed himself.

Much ado about nothing. What’s new?

Ag shame, it was the one and only time he cheated on her and snorted drugs with a hooker. There just happened to be a camera there that one time. What a co-incidence.
And bam,SA’s super-couple falls like a typical soap opera.

If a man leaves his wife for you, what do you think he is going to do when he is married to you?

(and Angie – haha, sies, but good one)

***APPLAUSE**** @ Really
My sentiments exactly – nothing like hurting your wife who you ‘love’ so much and then writing about it for the whole world to see so she can be reminded of it every single day for the rest of her life – oh, and lets not forget those 2 little kiddies who one day will be able to read! Yup, I echo Really, hope the money’s worth it…

Joost has included his *** video romps in a book which he is selling to make money. How is anyone supposed to pity someone making money out of their infidelity. And as for giving them the privacy to sort out their marriage – hell if it was so private then why write a book and make money out of the scandal. Sorry Joost I’ve no respect for you. Hope the moneys worth it.

What’s the big difference between what Joost did and what Jacob did — in his own home, under his own roof, with the daughter of a friend?
If Joost was runnng for high office as a member of the ANC, not only would he be forgiven, the SACP-Cosatu-ANC bully-boys would be out on the streets screaming blue murder and threating to “shoot and kill” anyone who dared question his morality.

Poor Joost needs to be given a chance. Most people at one time or another have taken drugs, nothing wrong with that in my opinion. I hope that his wife can forgive him for being unfaithful, they have a lovely family together and seem to be good together.

I am just very disappointed with Supersport for firing him, even before there was conclusive proof that it was him in the video and that was a private matter outside of work anyway. Imagine if any employer could fire you because of being drunk in public or getting in a fight at a bar for instance. I promise you Joost you will win if you take them to the CCMA, I won against my former employers, so can you.

He was the best rugby personality on tv and a good commentator, not to mention a legend in the world of rugby. I used to watch the Superrugby program on Kyknet every monday night, even though I am an English first language speaker, it was very entertaining with him, Kobus Wiese and Errol Tobias, who Supersport may have fired too for no reason.

C’mon give the guy a break, he made a mistake cheating, but don’t take away his career. It is not as bad as Hansie Cronje betraying the whole of SA by helping the cricket team to lose for betting syndicates. Even that never stopped me from respecting Cronje for the great way he played and captained the SA cricket team, he was the best.

Joost we love you!

Lets face it. Whats done is done and there is no going back – lets hope he has learnt from his mistakes and does not become another Steve Hofmeyr.

I can’t believe this…someone pls tell me the posts I’m reading are not a true reflection of our society.
Joost has just admitted (according to those who have the time to read his version of morality) to have cheated, lied and behaved badly, yet I see a lot of apologies for him.
This was the case with Hansie too. After he admitted to have sold his country for thousands of US dollars and a leather jacket, there was a downpour of apologies…
Why is it that some people are exepted from harsh treatment? When one player of colour (name withheld) was accused of a particular crime in the late 1990’s, the so-called gender activists (all white) were baying for his blood.
He was always guilt in the eyes of many…
This is shocking…..

Joost, thanks for the great contribution you made to Springbok rugby. Millions watched you and admired you excellent skills on the field. You were a champion !
I don’t think Amor is a fader and she will stand by her man. Now don’t disappoint her, us or yourself !

AGAIN…..”I am repentant, please forgive me…I have found forgiveness from the church”

What utter bullcr@p! I am so sick and tired of nobody ACTUALLY taking responsibility for their actions!

“go forth Joost and sin some more” you can just run back to the church again.

Oh god…. yet another one of those people who have to bring religion into the matter. If your god was so mighty, and he cared for them – then nothing bad would of happened to their marriage. And your god wouldnt of allowed something such as this to happen to them and to people all over the world. Why must you always run to this “god” for your problems, yet you are the first to blame “him” for the bad things that happen in you life. People like you are pathetic.

It’s hard to believe that anybody could get over something like that….but it does get better. If two people really love each other and Put God first everything will be restored one hundred fold. Remember we all fall short of the glory of God and His word tells us that no sin is greater than another. So if you are without sin, then cast that stone, if not i sugest you repent and leave Amor and Joost in Gods capable hands!!!!!

I’m still trying to figure out celebreties their motives behind making *** tapes. Videos are made for memories and for sharing. If the *** was worth remembering, any normal person would have said “blow the video”. (Should I rephrase that?) And while people do share videos of weddings, birthday parties and trips to the game reserve, a video of your sexploits? Can’t have been much of a lay if there was time to play with cameras.

@ Indian Larry – ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

@ Sandie – Are you feelin’ ok dol???? Hey this guy did to Amor what a ex-boyfriend did to me. Let me tell you I’ve been on the receiving end of the stick & it’s no laughing matter. The Trust is totally distroyed does not matter how long you give it “time” or “chances” the trust issue is always there!!!!!!!! It’s like a monser rearing it’s ugly head every time someone looks at him. To save everyone of heartache in the end. Just get divorced now especially for the sake of the children as they are the ones that suffer the most!!!!!!!

Anon on 3 November, 2009 at 11:35 am \C\AM\SAST #

Give him another chance? Just because it happened 3 years ago and he has learned his lesson? What are you? Mentally retarded? Then you could say the exact same thing about all the rapists, murders and thieves sitting in the jails!

The fact is, how would you feel if your husband/wife cheated on you? Yet alone by starring in a cheap *** porno video where he is seen taking drugs with some lowlife trash woman. That right there just proves he is not a man, and deserves to have his **** chopped off.

I have no respect for people who lie and are dishonest. Because if you have the nerve to lie about something – then you are basically a thief. How can you trust someone who lies? You cant. Its these types of people who dont deserve to live.

Now if you want to argue about what I have said, then you have something wrong with you. Because what I have commented is common logic and lies along ones upbringing which include basic values, manners and ethics!

I think Amor should give Joost another chance. I think they have both suffered enough and it did happen abt 3 yrs ago. Maybe he really has learnt his lesson now!

Stand by your man Armor. Give him a chance. We all make mistakes. Yes this mistake is unpalatable Joost must work hard to restore his image and Armor’s trust. Sometimes some men take their partners for granted and think that they can do anything and be readily forgiven. I hope Joost will realise that the vows he made on his wedding day were not a joke.

Bron on 3 November, 2009 at 10:25 am \C\AM\SAST #

One word for this whole saga – GROSS !!! I’m saddened that there are still people like this in the world. Lie and Cheat on your partners, and since when is a pregnant wife at home an excuse to cheat? SIES!!! Its unfortunate that this is being played out in the public eye. Joost is not the first nor the last to have ’sexual relations’ with someone other than his/her wife/husband. But he CHOSE the public life. At one stage you could barely open a magazine without being bombarded by the 2 of them. So he can’t turn around now and point fingers at the media..

pegs.gonubie on 3 November, 2009 at 10:23 am \C\AM\SAST #

What a pity he didn’t think with his right head and think of the consequences of a “wee bit of fun”!!

His wife, children and extended family are no doubt having a terrible time, made even worse by being in the public eye.

Grow up – and try and reign in your ego Joost!!

Take heed any other egomaniac “stars” – of both ***’s – there is always a re-action to every action, so unless you are prepared to face the consequences – don’t do it.

So, Joost decided to write his chapter and verse on morality at last and, again uses religion as a crutch to lean on.
But he does so at a convenient time for him. Typical, one might say. He is not the first to do so, and won’t be the last.
Corne Krige (remember the disgraced captain who sold his beliefs system, covered-up a racial slur in the Bok team and failed to stand up for what was right because of his obsession with goign to the World Cup).
Frankly, I have no time for Joost and I’m one of those who don’t give two cents about his convenient repentance (that will benefit him a lot with book sales, etc).
Just as I refused to buy Jake White’s self-serving book, In Black and White (until a friend gave it to me), I will also skip Joost’s poor version of confessions.

Angie on 3 November, 2009 at 8:41 am \C\AM\SAST #

Putting myself in Amor’s shoes, I don’t think I would ever be able to trust my husband again. Everytime he goes out without me, I would wonder who he is with. A leopard doesn’t chnage it’s spots.

Saying that, I wish them the best of luck!

When he was lekker hard his wasn’t looking at his priorities, he was looking at something else. I don’t know about the long part but I do know about the hard part.

Really!!!! If they don’t want their dirty washing aired in public then they must stop desperately seeking public attention. Their kids birthday parties are public events, etc, etc – what the hell did they expect. They are both attention seeking individuals and I for one am not interested in their lives. If Joost wants privacy why write a book for the general public? They are just lapping up the publicity but sadly for them with the good comes the bad.

A lekker *** & drugs scandal in the heart of rugby and Afrikanerdom – makes one think doesn’t it? Time for a GROOT religious revival, ek se, so old Joost can still go to heaven one day & save his marriage that he wasn’t thinking about while diddling some doll he wasn’t married to. Yusslike, what a scandal, like.

Let’s give the man a break….he needs to look long and hard at what his priorities are.He needs to evaluate his level of commitment to her and her to him..

MIRKA on 3 November, 2009 at 8:03 am \C\AM\SAST #

The people and media must leave them to sort out their personal sorrow…everybody now knows what they need to know. What is more important is that this is typically a story that must be dealt with with the youth as an example of what happens when one becomes too untouchable due to wealth, success, or whatever Joost’s ego issue was. The youth needs to know that it is for real that you’ll loose all that matters to you when you subscribe to drugs, ***, and everything that our religion warns us against!! It is a very sad ending to what seemed to be a happy family…celebrity or not!

GR8 on 3 November, 2009 at 7:58 am \C\AM\SAST #

Good luck to them. Being in the public eye just makes it 100 times worse. But Joost, if you cant do the time, you shouldnt have done the crime.
