Construction of the East London International Convention Centre (ELICC) and adjacent Premier Hotel Cascades is on track with the close on R530 million development due for completion early in 2010, writes Derrick Spies.

During an exclusive tour of the near completed facilities, managing director of Premier Hotels & Resorts Samuel Nassimov said he expected phase one of the 261-room five-star plus hotel, as well as the conference centre, to be up and running by late January or early February.
The second phase, which consisted of the second tier of rooms behind the conference centre, would be complete by end of April.
“The development is set to bring not only conference and incentive travel to East London, but to also significantly upgrade Orient Beach and the Esplanade as a leisure destination,” said Nassimov.
As we made our way up from the foyer to the fourth floor, Nassimov showed where the restaurant, business lounge and executive boardrooms were.
The fourth floor also houses a state-of-the-art Camelot spa. There is also a pool bar, where guests can lounge around the pool and enjoy the splendid views of the Indian Ocean and a gym.
The hotel rooms themselves average around 41m² and although not fully furnished, are extravagant, with a plasma television in each room as well as having an on-suite bathroom with top class finishes.
Nassimov said each room would also include free wi-fi Internet connections and 24-hour room service.
