EL-bound plane skids off runway

An SA Airlink aircraft with 29 passengers on board left the runway at the Port Elizabeth airport on Wednesday afternoon, paramedics said.

None of passengers or the crew members on board were injured, said Netcare 911 spokesman Jeff Wicks said.

“They’ve all been safely extricated from the plane by ACSA firefighters and shuttled to the arrivals area,” said Wicks.

He said the plane, bound for East London, left the runway on take off.

“Passengers insist that as the plane rumbled down the runway and gathered speed they heard a loud noise from the left of the plane and it spun violently and skidded into the grass,” said Wicks.

“Besides being visibly shaken all passengers and the crew are in good health.” – Sapa

And people wonder why I dont like to fly. On the news this morning they say that there was a strong gust of wind that blew the plane of the runway, that is one hell of a wind to blow something as huge and as heavy as a plane. I think the story of a loud bang is more probable.

All the drama with aircraft of late – it is lack of proper maintenance, I say. And it is because people are employed who cannot do the job and who should not be anywhere near an object as technical as an aircraft, etc. etc. etc.

I flew over 100 times in a 6 month period – and you’d think being a seasoned flyer I would’ve been ok with it – nope! I stressed every single time I got on that plane. I spoke to my minister about it – He said I must just remember up there I’m closer to God than ever before so I have nothing to fear! he he he :)
