Madiba named in coup plot against king

Filed Under (court, politics, traditional) by cheri on 15-12-2009 and tagged , , ,

coupAbaThembu king Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo had accused former president Nelson Mandela of leading a group of ANC officials in a “ coup” to dethrone him, reports Lubabalo Ngcukana.
The allegations were contained in a court affidavit filed in the Mthatha High Court in July this year.

Dalindyebo, who is Mandela’s clan nephew, alleged in the papers that the former State president led an “African National Congress (ANC) consortium” attempted “ coup” against him in 2002.

In October Dalindyebo was found guilty on charges of violence including arson, kidnapping, culpable homicide and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, as well as defeating the ends of justice.

The convictions related to incidents that took place on his Tyalara farm in 1995.

Last week Judge Sytze Alkema granted Dalindyebo leave to appeal both his conviction and 15-year prison sentence – as well as granting the State the right to argue for tougher convictions and harsher sentences before the Supreme Court of Appeals (SCA).

Dalindyebo’s attorney , Votani Majola, yesterday confirmed the king had filed the papers containing the allegations against Mandela in a bid to have his case thrown out of court and for a permanent stay of prosecution. He said the application was made in July but withdrawn by Dalindyebo in August.

He was not at liberty to discuss the reasons why the case was withdrawn .

Pathetic.

This modus operandi is fast losing credibility. When in trouble name-toss and hope the individual named will convince the authorities to not drag his name in the mud and withdraw the charges.

The Honourable King should hire better lawyers to think of a better defense then this; it’s very weak. With Votani on your side, i’m am not surprised.

Yet another over inflated ego!!

Respect is earned – even for a King. Hence the enormous respect the entire world has for Madiba.

Not justifying these wild claims in any way, but if Madiba wanted to oust you, it’s more evidence that you’re a royal mess and that society needs to be rid of you. Prison, son.
