Congratulations to the Dispatch on your interactive website, and welcome Phylicia. I enjoyed your first and very passionate posting on press freedom, and look forward to many interesting online discussions.

What REALLY pleases me, though, is the promise of Epozini, a Dispatch blog in isiXhosa.

Although I’m among what Gcina Mhlope calls the ‘currently disadvantaged’, because I can only use the very basics of isiXhosa, I strongly believe that all local languages should be acknowledged as beautiful, valued by their speakers, and as able to express complex concepts as any other language in the world.

This is profoundly important in education, where millions of Eastern Cape children are disadvantaged by not being able to use their home language for learning. So a blog that promotes and valorises the use of isiXhosa is very welcome!

Well, Althea you will be glad to know that as of now Epozini is up and running with its first post by Bongani. We are very keen to see how this works out.
